Man dies at Ramla

A 58-year-old man lost his life yesterday after difficulties encountered while swimming in Ramla Bay, limits of Xaghra, Gozo.
The police were alerted to the situation at 12.30p.m., when a witness realised that the man – later identified as a resident of nearby Xaghra – was in difficulty and called the emergency services for assistance.
The police and an ambulance were despatched to the scene, but by the time the victim was pulled out of the water it was already too late. He was certified dead on the spot.
Duty magistrate Dr A. Ellul is conducting an inquiry into the incident.
