Bureaucracy. Be very scared

In 2005 my family (of five) sold our house and bought an apartment. I had informed the Water Services Corporation of my change in residence, but to my surprise and utterly by accident I got to realise that the WSC had registered my new residence as ‘0’ residents. So for four years I was not attributed family credits on a total amount of €3,713 in paid bills, as if ghosts had occupied my new home consuming water and electricity on my behalf.
I emailed the WSC on Sunday 9 and on Monday 10 August, and visited their office in Luqa to claim back their over-charging due to their not transferring household data from one property to the other (and to my being naïve in thinking that Big Brother would never resolve to over-charge its citizens through its bureaucracy). My only fault was that I blindly and promptly wrote cheque after cheque to settle my dues as any decent citizen would do.
On Monday 17 August I received the WSC’s reply, wherein I was informed that “it is not our policy to revise back-dated bills” even though I did hand in copies of all related bills. Fellow citizens beware!
