Failures of the emergency vet service

My German Shepherd fell seriously ill on Saturday 26 July and during the following week with the help of our excellent vet Dr Gruppetta we did our utmost to make her comfortable and perhaps enable her get back its strength.
Unfortunately during the night between Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August my GSD got worse to such an extent that during the night we could not see her suffer any more and decided to put her out of her misery. So we called the Emergency Vet Service (€5.50 per call) and gave our particulars so that the Vet on duty will return the call.
A certain Dr Zammit called and when I outlined the situation he very coldly replied, “I do not come. You come to my clinic in Attard”. I explained that it was not possible for us to carry a 40kg dog in that state. With no compassion at all, he continued to insist on us going to his clinic. I therefore decided to call again the Emergency Vet Service (another €5.50) to enquire whether this Zammit was the only one available. I was informed that that was the case and that house calls are carried out at the vet’s discretion. Obviously we could not comply and our poor dog continued to suffer until she passed away at 8.30am on Sunday 2 August.
This so called vet, who fortunately I do not know is a disgrace to his profession. I shall keep his name in mind and tell all dog owners I know to avoid him like hell.
