What could be ‘bad’ about divorce?

I ardently ask Mgr. Anton Gouder the Curia or whoever is responsible, what our Church’s proposals and solutions are for those couples whose marriage has unfortunately and irreparably broken down and who perhaps want to enter into another relationship?
Let’s be factual. From its very nature and in such situation, the Church can offer nothing except an annulment of marriage whenever possible. And where impossible, those concerned have to stay single for the rest of their lives or wait until their ex-partner dies! This is the plain bitter truth! On the other hand, we have always been taught that besides wanting the best for His children, God also wants them to lead a happy life. But in such situation, I wonder how much happy leading an imposed life as single can be! God surely sees and judges things from a far different perspective than we humans do!
On the other hand, at least up to now, the State can provide a legal separation of couples or a legal annulment after which those involved can remarry if they wish. It’s about time our civil authorities seriously consider to introduce divorce and thus give broken marriages another chance. A chance that would give those involved another possibility to legally enter into another relationship. A chance which only we and the Philippines don’t have!
The State should not adopt any more a potential disposition towards us, citizens, and this also applies to other aspects of Maltese life. Stop treating us like children! Our civil authorities should break free from their submissive attitude towards our Church. After all a convinced Catholic would never opt for divorce while others would perhaps go for it!.
So why all this lingering on and fear? After all, I think no one can run away from the consequences of this choice. But I have the feeling that both our Church and State are not convinced at all about this and that’s why this attitude on the part of our civil authorities. An attitude which certainly helps to put our Church’s mind at rest!
