Raphael Vassallo’s ‘Super Mario’ (2 August, 2009) was a very impressive piece of writing, funny and so true. Mr Vassallo must be one of the best writers in Malta. Very clever.
I noticed some people did not appreciate it so much but then some people believe 3,000-year-old goat-herders know more about the universe then modern scientists, biologists and most people with a brain who can think for themselves.
Even knowing the history of religion, and the Catholic Church in particular, they still cling to outdated rules and beliefs.
If the Church and its followers don’t want any criticism then they should leave religion inside the Church and leave people who don’t believe fairytales and superstition to live their own lives. Before they speak of morals, there is nothing moral about the history of religion or the fact that wars, genocide and the hatred of different cultures and ignorance of different views, is all down to religion. Is this why the most religious countries are the poorest and least educated?
Maybe we should be thanking the great people who advanced our knowledge of the world we live in.
Real people achieving real achievements, like Stephen Hawking, one of the cleverest and most knowledgeable men that ever lived and like all the greatest minds, old and new, a non-believer in religion.
