The hunting federation (FKNK) announced it will form a working group with the Labour Party (PL), with representatives from each side meeting to discuss hunting and trapping.
The FKNK delegation met PL leader Joseph Muscat at the party headquarters in Hamrun.
“The very cordial meeting discussed crucial items negatively affecting hunters and trappers in this very delicate period of time, also because of the incorrect application of benefits that can be utilised from the EU’s Birds’ Directive,” FKNK secretary-general Lino Farrugia said.
It was agreed that in order for the PL to be better adjourned in a consistent manner, a working group with representatives from both sides will monitor hunting and trapping matters, “always within the ambit of EU legislation. The working group will also be meeting so that the Federation, as it has always done, would be in a position to inform its members with both main political Parties qualified opinions as necessary.”
The FKNK said Muscat had repeated the PL’s stand that whilst European laws have to be observed, Maltese and Gozitian citizens, including hunters and trappers, should not be treated any worse than other European citizens.
