Malta not yet prepared for noise pollution laws – PL
Labour’s spokesperson for the environment Leo Brincat said a report by the EU’s Council of Ministers had revealed Malta had not yet started implementing European directives on noise abatement.
Brincat said that in the report by the European Council sent earlier this year as an addendum to the European Social Charter, the Maltese government admitted being still preparing strategic noise maps and actions plans; that until April 2009 it was still evaluating the bidders for a tender on a national network for noise management; and that the necessary law to control ‘domestic residential noise’ was still being drawn up.
“This shows that although our country has been an EU member state since 2004, we still do not have clear guidelines on noise pollution limits, as well as details, measures and control procedures associated with the various categories of noise pollution,” Brincat said.
The Labour MP added that Malta had no form of abatement measures for the negative impact of excessive sound and harmful environmental noise.
