Disappointed at Piano

I have had my ear to the ground listening to people’s comments about the Renzo Piano plans, with particular attention to the Opera House.
Except for all the bull on Net TV, comments on other stations have not been so favourable regarding the Opera House. In fact the plan for the opera house was shot to bits.
When I first saw the plans on Sunday’s newspapers, I deduced that Signor Piano had been making a very wide survey of hotels with tennis courts. Because this is what his plan for the Teatru looks like. In a radio discussion on a very popular station, Anna Bonanno’s only purpose was to cut off the line to callers – i.e. the public – the listening public. Everyone commented that his design as a theatre was ‘useless’.
My opinion is that when faced with the Teatru as it once was he was at a loss to replace it with anything that gave Valletta the dignity it once had. And his only way out was to do nothing about it. He just surrounded the ruins with pipes and this came to resemble a tennis court. He called it an open-air theatre. This saved Dr Gonzi a few million euros.
The whole object of this exercise, as far as I can see, is for Dr Gonzi to ‘buy’ the next election hence the urgency to finish the job before next election. However I am sure that the adverse comments will continue to rise in a crescendo and by the next election it should explode.
I still feel that the Teatru Rjal should be left for the people of Malta to decide and finance, if only a few people would come forward and get the scheme going.
