Government must act on cervical cancer

Further to Raphael Vassallo’s article on cervical cancer (27 April, 2008), I ask if the government has made any decisions regarding the vaccine for HPV and if it intends to follow in the UK’s footsteps to introduce a national immunisation programme for children between 10 to 12 years of age for this virus. Does the government intend to provide this vaccine for free to anyone who wishes to take it as a prevention from cervical cancer? I urge MaltaToday to publish a follow-up article to Mr Vassallo’s article with updated statistics on the increasing virus and the death toll it is bringing with it. I also address the Minister of Health and ask him how many lives could have been saved had the vaccine been introduced a year ago, and what is the government doing to raise awareness on this issue?
