Green alternatives for Sliema

Patrick Pace (MaltaToday, 18 January, 2009) floats two ideas for Sliema local council.
In the first instance, he proposes that the council introduces energy-saving measures. In the second, he proposes adding new bicycle racks.
I am pleased to inform Mr Pace that Sliema council is already working on these two ideas, following my initiative as Green councillor, and with the support of all councillors from the three political parties represented. A look at council minutes and the council magazine (which is received by all Sliema residents) confirms this.
As regards energy-saving measures, Sliema council is considering offers being made by companies for photovoltaic plants. Council intends to make use of public funds which exist for such a purpose.
As regards bicycle racks, Sliema council has decided to add new ones to encourage the use of bicycles as a healthy and alternative form of transport. These will soon be in place. In the meantime, council is in communication with the Malta Cycling Federation for their advice in this regard.
Sliema council is also working on other environment-friendly ideas, thanks to the contribution of various councillors and the feedback from residents and NGOs. Mr Pace is more than welcome to put forward his suggestions to the council.
