HSBC Group CEO in Malta visit

As part of his annual global roadshow, HSBC Holding Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Geoghegan arrived in Malta yesterday to update HSBC Bank Malta employees on HSBC Group’s performance.
During his whirlwind global roadshow Mr Geoghegan is visiting 29 locations across five continents, covering 90,000 miles in just 22 days. Mr Geoghegan will address tens of thousands of HSBC employees worldwide. The roadshow began in Buenos Aires on September 29, and concludes in Jersey on October 20, and covers North America, South America, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia.
HSBC Malta is considered to be one of the 29 best performing operations in HSBC worldwide, registering more than US$150 million profit over the past financial year. HSBC is present in 85 countries and territories.
The Malta event consists of a keynote presentation by Mr Geoghegan although the focus of the roadshow remains the question and answer session that follows when employees ask direct questions to the Group CEO.
“I passionately believe that if we want to remain the finest team in financial services, we need to constantly focus on improving our internal communication capabilities,” said Mr Geoghegan. “In a way, the roadshow is the annual culmination of that communications journey. The rationale of having the roadshow is for as many people as possible to have the opportunity to quiz me on how the Group Management Board is running the company and for me to understand better what challenges our employees are facing in the business.”
Alan Richards, HSBC’s CEO in Malta commented, “We are delighted to welcome Mike back to Malta again this year. It is a real fillip for the team to be able to quiz Mike in person on the Group’s strategy and objectives and to get an update on how well the Group is performing in spite of the challenges in the global financial markets.
“While we are a large organisation, employing over 300,000 people, it is typical of the hands on style at HSBC that Mike should go to the trouble of visiting so many countries first hand. I know Mike finds it an invaluable experience and he enjoys the ideas, suggestions and questions that are generated during his visit.”
