Kickass Plays
Four short plays by Jane Shepard, directed by George Mizzi under The Gozo Creative Club, will be staged at Uncle Ted’s Tavern, Sannat, Gozo. The Gozo Creative Club will, as in previous performances, dissolve the barrier between performer and audience for the plays. Shepard’s dramas are intense and often funny explorations that tackle and challenge the notions of femininity and female sexuality. ‘Friends of the Deceased’ will be held on Saturday 6 October. ‘Commencing’ and ‘The Last Nickel’ will be held on Saturday 29 September and Saturday 13 October. All performances start at 7.30pm and are for adults only.

Local bands Stillborn and Elements will be playing at Poxx Bar, courtesy of Stagedive. Doors open at 8:30pm. Entrance is free and Stillborn’s first CD will be on sale.

World Press Photo
World Press Photo visits Malta for the very first time, exhibiting a series of award-winning pieces of photojournalism taken over 2006 at St James Cavalier. Among the 170 photos on display will be Spencer Platt’s top prize-winning photograph shot in Lebanon just a day after the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Founded in Amsterdam in 1955, the non-profit, annual travelling exhibition aims to push photojournalism to the cultural forefront, raising awareness and awarding the most powerful and poignant press photography of the year.

The brother-sister duo exhibit urban photography and painting at the 2_22 wine bar in Marsamxett, Valletta. The exhibition is the first in a series, as the wine bar will be used as a venue for a different artist each month.

Nicole Cuschieri will be next in line to present her work at the 2_22 wine bar in Marsamxett, Valletta. ‘Art into Fashion’ will feature video art, photography, illustration, sculpture and live performance. James’ Far Out Picture Show Adventure
Exhibition of paintings by James Micallef Grimaud at Juuls Bar, Paceville. The paintings complement the bar’s relaxed atmosphere in depicting the young artist’s favourite musicians as well as assorted characters and moods culled from his varied travels.

Bodies
An exhibition of drawings by Gilbert Calleja, Jesmond Vassallo and Robert Zahra at the Contemporary Hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta. The works are of a semi-collaborative nature and focus on the nude, as studied from life. Breaking Stereotypes
An open-air exhibition of posters submitted by students taking part of the ‘Breaking Stereotypes’ EU initiative. The shortlisters’ work will be on display at the St Julian’s Promenade. The 25 posters on display are from finalists of more than 750 students from the 270 different academies that took part in the competition, representing all 25 EU member states. The competition and exhibition form part of an initiative that sets out to combat discrimination.
