Solidarity with Bianca and the Palestinian people

SKOP’s Euromed working group would like to express its own support towards the Maltese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ immediate response to the attack on Bianca.
We also wish to show our appreciation for the firm stance that the Maltese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed towards Israel.
We wish to ask Hon. Tonio Borg to bring up this abuse before all international fora possible since this is not a one-off incident but a constant treatment of Palestinians!
The Israeli military is not acknowledging the fact that they shot a Maltese national, saying that they hit three Palestinians. This is the line given to journalists by the Israeli military spokesmen.
The Israeli military said it fired “warning shots” at a group of Palestinians gathering “very close to the security fence” in central Gaza. A spokesman said Israeli forces had identified “hitting three of the Palestinians”.
“The area adjacent to the security fence is a combat zone used by terrorist organizations to execute attacks against Israel,” the Israeli army said, adding that it would “not allow anyone to be present in it, since it is considered a threat to the residents of Israel and to Israeli security forces”.
We at SKOP’s Euromed working group want to express our admiration and solidarity with Bianca who is also a colleague and friend of ours! Having said that we also wish to extend our solidarity to all Palestinian, shot in many other similar incidents.
The Euromed working group would also like to note that the so-called ‘combat zone’ is unilaterally declared by Israel with no grounds in international law. Knowing Bianca we can surely vouch for her non-violent and peaceful resistance. From information we have we also are aware that she even talked to soldiers by megaphone telling them what the demonstration was about. This is all essential information in light of the other so-called official information coming from Israel against a Maltese national. Finally the working group would like to urge EU institutions once again to re-consider Israel’s privileged status in relation to the EU in light of these serious and fundamental violations towards Human Rights.
