Reference is made to the Article in the MaltaToday edition of 13 January 2010 entitled ‘Storm in a teacup’.
A number of the points raised have been tackled in various letters to other newspapers to which I make reference. In particular your readers might care to read the following the articles entitled:
(a.) ‘The Voluntary Organisations Act and the MCCF’ which appeared on The Malta Independent on Sunday, published on10 January 2010; and
(b.) ‘To lead by example’ which appeared on The Times of Malta, published on Monday 11 January 2010.
Further comments on my part would be mere repetition. Any alleged political motivations are all unfounded as a careful reader will notice from the article published on Sunday 10t January 2010.
As regards the Queen, from a quick look at the official website of the English monarchy, it is evident that the Queen has the patronage of a number of voluntary organisations. Moreover, the Prince’s Charities’ is a group of non-for-profit organisations of which The Prince of Wales is a Patron or President; 18 of the 20 Charities were founded personally by the Prince. Rather than wrongly attributing political motives which are undue and do not help in any way, it may be more useful helping in the dissemination of education about the issues involved in enrolling voluntary organisations as there is so much work to do in the interest of the sector as a whole.
We are still at the very beginning of the process and everyone’s positive and constructive approach is needed.
Marika Farrugia,
Obo Commission for Voluntary Organisations
