Malta’s new nightlife hours rank as slightly – but only slightly – restrictive compared to the rest of Europe, where the tendency is for closing time to average around 5am on weekends. Surprisingly, countries reputed for liberal attitudes seem to have stricter regimes than others most commonly associated with conservatism
United Kingdom (UK) In the UK, standard nightclub opening and closing times are from 10 am to 4 am the next morning. However, these can vary greatly – some close around 2 am, while some stay open all night.
Standard opening hours for pubs are from 11am to 11pm from Mondays to Saturdays, and between 11am and 10.30 pm on Saturdays.
However, as with the case of nightlclubs, pubs in Britain have had the right to apply for a 24-hour drinking licence, so you will frequently find pubs open well after 11 pm.
The Netherlands Pubs are usually open until 4 am on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 2 am on other days.
Poland There are no fixed opening hours for nightclubs, though it’s safe enough to assume that if it’s a weekend, it’s open.
Germany In Berlin, the usual opening times for nightclubs is 10 pm to 4am, but there are clubs which stay open later.
Sweden Opening hours on Swedish pubs and discos depend on the concept of the place but pubs open 12pm and close at around 1am and discotheques open at about 7pm and closes at about 3-5am.
Italy There are no strictly enforced closing time for nightclubs: however, no alcohol may be served after 2am.
