Marooned on Comino

Just a few days before Christmas, eight Maltese personalities will be literally stranded on the island of Comino.
No frills, and anything but luxurious conditions – a first of its kind in local media, a new reality show on ONE TV will feature a group of sought after TV personalities isolated for four days on Comino, away from their families and hustle and bustle of the Christmas festivities.
MediaToday journalist Julia Farrugia and TV personalities Joseph Chetcuti, Mario Morales, Larissa Bonaci, Miss Kelly, Ignatius Farrugia, Neville Refalo and Wayne Aquilina were picked for the “Izolati” mission.
“We want to show the thousands of Maltese viewers a Comino from a different angle: the flora, the fauna, the true myth of Comino and the challenges faced by those who have to live on an almost a deserted island,” explained Charlon Gouder and TV Director Jason Busuttil, heading the logistics of this reality programme.
“Besides, the personalities will have to face all the elements of a wintry Comino with loads of tasks including military training,” revealed ONE TV in a press conference.
“This challenge is definitely an intriguing one. As a mediahouse we have always been in the forefront of being the voice of the people. Way back in May, Illum has been the first paper to highlight the hurdle that the only surviving family on Comino was facing ,” Julia Farrugia said.
Salvu Vella had been forced to start paying road taxes for his vehicle despite the fact that on Comino there are no proper roads.
“We have helped Salvu and through the pressure of local media, the Government withdrew the decisions against Salvu and his family.
“I have always believed that real TV stories can send a very strong message. I am sure that our four days locked-up on Comino will give a true picture of what it feels like to live on a deserted island.”
Digging through the CVs of the chosen personalities one can find a common factor - seven out of these eight personalities have a phobia for one species found on Comino, a fact offering a true challenge for the whole team. Who will survive through the whole mission?
Live links from Comino will feature daily on ONE TV between the 17 and the 20 of December during special programmes and live links throughout the day targeting the Izolati challenge.
The Maltese audience will be having a direct role in this reality expedition. “Huge prices are being promised throughout the four days of Izolati,” with the audience being able to talk with their favourite personality during the isolation period on Comino.
