Budget lacks in social aspect

The Government's 2010 budget is a means to incentivise the business sector whilst neglecting social realities especially of those with middle or low incomes.
The increase in investment in education, in small and medium enterprises, and in child care facilities are agreed with, though as regards the latter, it is not clear how these can be affordable and accessible.
Zminijietna also agrees with the COLA full compensation and with the decision not to reduce income tax for high earners, as such funds are required for Malta's welfare state.
Zminijietna - Voice of the Left criticised the lack of social and environmental vision in Government's public transport policies. Old Euro 3 buses are given preference over newer Euro 5 buses, and Government aims to do away with subsidies, thus going against the concept of social routes at various times of the day, all over Malta and Gozo.
We would have expected the Government to be stronger against big business tax evaders, property speculators and wasteful practices. As regards utility bills, Government will keep its anti-social policies, thus penalising basic consumption.
