EIE ordered to refund student

The European Institute of Education was ordered to pay back the sum of €3,494 to a foreign student, who never received any of the lectures he had signed up for.
Judge Philip Sciberras confirmed the judgement handed by the Small Claims Tribunal, and doubled the costs incurred for the “futile” appeal lodged by EIE director Antonello Cappitta.
On 18 November, 2008, the Small Claims Tribunal ordered EIE to pay back Abdul Mannan of Lakshmipur, Bangladesh, for lectures he had not received.
Mannan was enrolled at EIE to study hospitality management and charged for his tuition fees. According to the enrolment deal, Mannan was supposed to have been provided with a student’s visa.
He then claimed he was refused a refund when EIE could not provide him with a visa.
In a separate case, EIE is currently suing Labour MP Evarist Bartolo for libel.
