Enemalta restores electricity to Ghargur antenna

A private contractor who was carrying out works in the Ghargur vicinity early this morning damaged an 11kv electricity cable, interrupting the electricity service feeding parts of Lija and Naxxar via the Ghargur transmission antenna.
Immediate measures were taken to supply these affected areas through an alternative supply and excavation works to repair the damaged underground cable were initiated immediately.
Priority was given to the electricity service on the Ghargur transmission and electricity was restored within an hour of the accident.
Ghargur and Naxxar residents had their electricity service restored shortly afterwards by 8:42am, and Lija residents by 10:30am.
Enemalta Corporation is reviewing its legal position and is considering initiating legal proceedings against the contractor.
Customers are reminded that they can report faults and power interruptions on the following freephone number 80072224.
