Ministry to spend €30,000 to replace missing clippers

The health ministry will spend €30,000 on new clippers and scissors for all health centres after “substantial wear and tear” led to a reduced service for nail-clipping.
Amongst those who make regular use of this service are the elderly, who get their nails clipped in local clinics.
Nationalist MP Jean-Pierre Farrugia complained in parliament that the necessary equipment had been missing for some months, preventing podiatrists from clipping patients’ nails.
MaltaToday was also alerted this week to a case of a 70-year-old woman in Gozo who went for her podiatrist’s appointment, only to find that her nails couldn’t be cut because the necessary tools had been missing for months.
Social Policy minister John Dalli told parliament that “substantial wear and tear” from a strong demand for this service had decimated much of the tools used by the podiatrists.
