FKNK sows doubt on trappers’ arrest

The Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FKNK) in a statement yesterday threw doubt on the accuracy of the reported arrest of two bird trappers in Birżebbuġa.
Initial reports described the arrest by the police Administrative Law Enforcement Unit (ALE) of two persons found trapping illegally.
The police allegedly gave chase as the two fled the scene. The arrest took place after a policeman was bitten by one of the trappers as he was being disarmed of a glass bottle he had used to threaten the police.
In its statement the FKNK claimed to be in possession of a “completely different” version of what took place but did not make it public pending further investigations. The Federation appeared to challenge the conduct of the police in this arrest but did not give details of its complaint.
