200 Carlo Gavazzi workers on four-day week

Another sizeable group of workers, this time at the Carlo Gavazzi factory in Bulebel, were put on a four-day week.
Some 200 workers will be put on the reduced working week in a bid to avoid redundancies at the company, which manufacturers electronic and electro-mechanical control components for the industrial automation market.
The company said it had been strongly affected by the international economic crisis and that orders fell drastically over the past few weeks. The company said this had had a negative impact on its financial viability and competitiveness.
The reduced working week will affect all workers except the product development and R&D departments, where efforts are being intensified to launch new products on the market and generate new business.
