Daylight savings

The North American continent (Canada and the USA) is already enjoying the benefits of Daylight Saving, and also does so for an extra week in the autumn. The USA alone will save over one million carbon emissions from this revision.
Europe mean time maintains the ridiculous and indefensible system with virtually all of March falling in “winter”: twice as much “winter”, in fact, after the shortest day than before it.
Meanwhile, EU ministers haggle without success over ways of reducing emissions. Given the latitudes of the two North American countries, if savings are made there, then savings will be made in Europe by extending Daylight Saving dates – which would also maintain a uniform time difference between the continents for trading purposes.
Too simple for the EU ministers to introduce? At least every Member State would be contributing something equally.
