Tonio Fenech’s argument, that the tax collected from VAT on car registration was spent on sectors benefiting the community, is quite infantile. Where else should public money go? It is not as if the finance minister is doing us a favour by spending public money in the public’s interest.
But Fenech seems to be trying to take the argument a bit further. He is indicating that we should say ‘yes, sir’ to any taxes and money-collecting schemes he deems fit, whether they are just or not, always under the pretext that this money is being well spent.
Mr Fenech please remember that this is a democracy, and people have the right to enquire, question and challenge any ambiguous decisions, such as this one.
