A Journey of Discovery

Nomad Son
The doom-metal band will be playing at this year’s Youthfest in Freedom Square, Valletta from 21:00. They will be accompanied by other bands. Nomad Son merchandise will be on sale. Entrance is free.

The folk ensemble will be launching their debut album, Kuntrabanda! at Liquid Club, San Gwann. Doors open at 18:00. Entrance is at €7; €11 including CD and a full body massage by Miriam Dalli.

Magic of Opera
Gillian Zammit (Soprano), David Sotgiu'(Tenor), joined by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (led by Marcelline Agius) and conducted by Paolo Ponziano Ciardi will be presenting operatic excerpts from Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, Donizetti, Weber, Rossini, Wolf-Ferrari and Massenet at the Manoel Theatre. Tonight and November 7 - 9
Vilified by the Daily Mail as a 'disgusting feast of filth' and revered by other critics as a masterpiece, Sarah Kane's Blasted finally comes to St James Cavalier courtesy of Unifaun Theatre. Directed by maverick Californian director Dave Barton and featuring American pro Bryan Jennings in the main role, together with locals Jo Caruana and Andrew Galea. Swan Lake on Ice
Three thousand kilograms of ice will transform the stage at The Mediterranean Conference Centre into a grand and spectacular ice rink, for the first ever local performance of the world’s famous 'Swan Lake on Ice'. Thirty five award winning Russian ice-ballet dancers from the The St Petersburg State Ballet (Russia) will perform this timeless classic ‘on ice’ for the very first time here in Malta. The launch for Ġuże Stagno’s third novel (following ‘Nbid ta’ Kuljum’ and Xemx, Wisq Sabiha’) will take place at the Hamrun Liberty A.S.C. Bar, Mile End, Hamrun from 19:00. Limited edition copies of the novel will be sold.

November 3
La realta` dello spazio. Lo spazio del cinema neorealista.
As part of the ‘Literature and Comparison’ Research Seminar Series and in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Professor Francesco Pitassio from the University of Udine will deliver a paper called “La realta` dello spazio. Lo spazio del cinema neorealista.” The seminar will take place in the Gateway Building, Hall E at 18:00. Professor Pitassio will study the representation of space in the films of the Italian Neorealismo from various angles: Space/Nation; Space/Realism; Space/Aesthetics; and finally, Space/Myth. Mindful of the theories of André Bazin and Gilles Deleuze, the seminar will discuss the representation of space in such films as La terra trema, Paisà and Ladri di biciclette, among others. Professor Pitassio will deliver the seminar in Italian.
