The police’s Criminal Investigations Department in Gozo are questioning two Gozitans after a crackdown on drug-related incidents revealed evidence of illegal hunting.
On Sunday evening, the Gozo CID was monitoring the suspicious movements of the two men, in the village of Kercem.
In a search held in a vacant property belonging to Mario Xuereb, 26, from Victoria, the police found an amount of cannabis hidden in a bag.
Later, in another property belonging to Xuereb in the San Frangisk area in Victoria, police found two cannabis plants.
Immediately after a similar search was held at the residence of Joseph Debrincat, 37, from Munxar, where police stumbled upon a massive amount of stuffed birds displayed in a showcase.
A person close to the investigation unit confirmed with MaltaToday that the police seized more than 50 stuffed, protected birds, which were all mounted. Inspector Josric Mifsud, aided by Victoria District Police, carried out the investigations.
