I think that your newspaper needs to do the world a favor and include two books in your must-read section for this year. These books are: Whispering in the Giant’s Ear: A Frontline Chronicle From Bolivia’s War on Globalization and Blue Clay People: Seasons on Africa’s Fragile Edge, both by New York writer, William Powers.
These books touched my intellect and my heart. Not only are these books well-written, first-hand accounts of real issues happening around the world, they are powerful, compelling, and elegant. They read like novels, fast-paced and straightforward. They are essentials for anyone looking to change the world by helping those less fortunate. I would recommend them to all the avid traveling, do-gooders (like me) I know.
These books are fascinating enticements to hear the world, rather than dominate it.
