Reference is made to the letter dated 10 August by Francesca Meilaq, on the St John’s Co-Cathedral new museum project appearing in MaltaToday.
It is strange that Ms Meilaq claims to have ‘discovered’ that I am a member of the council of Din l-Art Helwa as it is a known fact to all who are remotely interested in the conservation of Maltese heritage.
I have been a member of this council well before I was appointed Curator at St John’s. This also is a well-known fact and surely, did not require any ‘excavation’.
It is particularly wrong of her to suggest or imply that any decision taken by the council of Din l-Art Helwa was remotely influenced by the fact that I am a member of the council as well. The council members are extremely professional, well-informed and respected individuals at the national level who would only give an opinion or take a decision in the best interest of our heritage and would never bend on account of any personal sympathy.
I will not make any further comments about her opinions. In the circumstances, she does not deserve them.
