I refer to your comments under the heading “Congratulations and celebrations” in last Sunday’s issue, July 20, of MaltaToday and wish to inform you that you have been totally misinformed about the issue leading to Mr Eric German’s suspension from KRS’s Press screenings.
It is not correct to state that German was banned by KRS from reviewing films in The Sunday Times or in MaltaToday: so much so that your newspaper carries his reviews every week.
KRS never interferes in critics’ film reviews and it is only when unjustified false damaging remarks as those made by Mr. German about the condition of the print of the film ‘OVER HER DEAD BODY’ – a new copy – that KRS decided to take the necessary action to safeguard its reputation.
Mr German was given the opportunity to correct his untrue statement and apologize for his error but regretfully he failed to do so.
Therefore there is no truth in what you say that “KRS banned Mr. German from reviewing films because recently he reviewed a film with The Sunday Times and gave it the thumbs down.”
With regard to your comments that KRS has complete control over the films that enter Malta and Gozo, I can assure you that anyone can import and offer films for exhibition in Malta, as has been the case in many instances.
