Condolences pour in from Azzopardi’s colleagues

Work colleagues of Nicholas Azzopardi from Enemalta have sent their heartfelt condolences to family of their former Health and Safety Representative in the form of a letter, which was also sent to MaltaToday.
A total of 198 workers, managers and senior management staff signed the letter thanking Nicholas for his sterling work and loyalty.
Azzopardi was their elective representative on occupational health and safety.
“You were like a brother to us,” his colleagues say in their letter, thanking him for supporting them with great honesty. “You were always ready to give a helping hand, and always present in our hour of need. You treated our problems as if they were yours, and with a generous heart you always gave us a good example.”
Colleagues who spoke to MaltaToday said they were hurt by the reporting on TVM about their former colleague.
“We were particularly hurt by what was broadcast about him on the national television station,” one of his colleagues said. “We know Nicholas and was always a great friend and gentleman.”
Another worker said: “Unlike some of his colleagues, he did not stop by grumbling and complaining, but used to move around the areas where he used to work and bring about to the attention to his superiors any health and safety hazards in a most constructive way.”
Two senior operators who worked with him were also told first-hand by Azzopardi about his ordeal while under police custody, where he was allegedly beaten up by his interrogators.
