Lawrence Gonzi to be Malta’s next Prime Minister
Lawrence Gonzi yesterday effectively became the new leader of the Nationalist Party and Prime Minister to be with a lead of 289 votes or 33.7 percentage points over his nearest rival John Dalli. The 50 year old lawyer attained 508 votes.

Roger Degiorgio is Managing Director at MaltaToday
Dr Roger Degiorgio will be the new Managing Director and co-owner of Newsworks Ltd as from tomorrow. Newsworks Ltd is the new media house responsible for various media including the Sunday newspaper MaltaToday, the weekly financial newspaper The Malta Financial & Business Times and TV reportage. Dr Degiorgio’s involvement as co-owner of the two prestigious publications comes after a period of positive growth for the young media house.
Dr Degiorgio’s involvement with the media goes back twenty years. He was responsible for the running of the newspaper In-Nazzjon Taghna and instrumental in setting up the TV station NET TV. Recently he also served as managing director of Standard Publications, publisher of The Malta Independent and The Malta Business Weekly. Dr Degiorgio also has an interest in the entertainment business.
Commenting on Dr Degiorgio’s business involvement with the company, Mr Saviour Balzan co-owner and Managing Editor at Newsworks Ltd said: "This latest development augurs well for Newsworks Ltd. Dr Degiorgio brings with him years of experience and a dynamism that is essential in the changing world of media. Our operations, but most especially those at MaltaToday will have much to gain from Dr Degiorgio’s personal involvement, this is a splendid way to kick off into a new year after a tough, but successful year for us."


MaltaToday - Malta’s fastest growing newspaper
Readership of MaltaToday grew by a staggering 152 percent in under twelve months. This is the conclusion of a survey carried out by ‘Informa’ consultants. The survey confirms that MaltaToday is the fastest growing newspaper on the island with 4.3 percent of the newspaper market share compared to the 6.4 percent of it’s main rival, The Malta Independent on Sunday.
MaltaToday stood at 1.7 percent a year ago. The survey was carried out after the elections. MaltaToday’s increased readership is reflected in this newspaper’s sales records which have shot up during the last year. The Malta Independent on Sunday dropped by 6 percent during the same period.
