Late last week I attended the pharmacy at Mater Dei Hospital. First I had to queue outside a door leading to the pharmacy and having gone in, I was allocated a number and I waited for my turn.
Two counter clerks were fagged out dealing with customers, with hardly a minute to have a cup of coffee. I was there for a whole hour and to my amazement I noticed an employee sitting next to the counter clerks who was doing nothing at all. During the hour I was there she raised her hand twice to sip water from a bottle she had under the counter.
We know that the hospital is short-staffed and I wonder whether this woman could be more meaningful employed. After all she is being paid out of mine and your taxes.
