XFM radio gets closer to Calypso

The new directors of XFM Radio already enjoy a connection to another radio station, Calypso FM, after buying the licence for the radio from Grima Communications.
Alvin Cacciattolo, a director-shareholder of Valentina Communications, the new XFM owners, is the son of Alfred Cacciattolo, owner of the Calypso Media Communications, which runs Calypso FM. In a joint statement, Valentina Communications Ltd and Grima Communications Ltd, the previous owners, said that the latter have ceased their operation of the radio. The assignment of the license was conducted following Broadcasting Authority approval in line with the provisions outlined in the Broadcasting Act.
The new directors said the radio’s name, style and format will remain the same. The former vice-president of the GRTU, Sandro Chetcuti, had just acquired XFM this year before being charged in March with the attempted murder of the GRTU’s director-general Vince Farrugia, in an assault inside the association’s office.
Chetcuti, a construction developer, had just acquired the station with Michael Falzon, the former Nationalist minister. Chetcuti, 38, had only recently forged a deal with XFM owner Mark Grima, with an application for their radio licence pending with the Broadcasting Authority.
