Was it really a ‘lapsus’?

I don’t think that MP Mario Galea made a mistake on Thursday 6 May, when voting in favour of the Opposition’s motion. Galea resides in Zejtun, next to Marsaxlokk, where the power station’s extension is planned to be held. His constituents and Galea himself are surely concerned more than others regarding the negative health consequences that a prototype technology run by Heavy Fuel Oil can cause to the people’s health. Such concerns are more than legitimate in times when everyone is going green.
Galea’s “Yes” during the roll-call was crystal clear. I heard it live, but couldn’t listen to it for a second time due to the government’s decision not to upload the recording on the House of Representative’s website. It can be that during the Speaker’s listening to the recordings, Galea was put under pressure by his colleagues in order to change his vote.
Mario Galea’s “Yes” vote in Parliament was in favour of the people’s health. It was also in favour of valuing taxpayers’ money. It’s a pity having MPs put under pressure not to vote according to their conscience in such cases. Such deeds can only leave the House to be less representative than it should be. The Speaker’s approach to the occasion was amateurish in style and nature. He didn’t show himself as being super partes.
And, by the way, where have all Franco Debono’s concerns regarding this saga gone? Maybe he found the comfy job and greater exposure he was aiming at?
