Shortfall from mismanaged finances

I was listening to a radio broadcast in which the finance minister and Gavin Gulia (who was very weak in his arguments) took part.
Tonio Fenech wanted to project the idea that there are no finances to alleviate the hardship of low-income families and pensioners. Of course there is no money to go round. Why?
Because the three pillars of this government – the prime minister Lawrence Gonzi, the minister of infrastructure Austin Gatt and Tonio Fenech – have proven to be the greatest spendthrifts in parliament for a long time. The prime minister wants a new parliament because he cannot boast about Mater Dei for the next election (since it has proven to be a disaster) so he will want to boast of a new parliament seat. How much will this cost? How much will Renzo Piano want for his services? Big question marks which the prime minister will not divulge. The prime minister said the target of this government is jobs. What jobs?
We have a finance minister who does not care about collecting taxes, income tax or VAT for that matter. He has now come up with the brilliant idea to offer an amnesty for defaulters. He refuses to say who will benefit from this amnesty. A lot of little guys or a few big fish? It is more likely to be the latter, I am certain.
The few thieves taken to court over the VAT fraud have come out scot-free. What a load of rubbish. Even the courts are tainted with this amnesty disease. Among the next lot there is bound to be a couple of big fish – will these too receive suspended sentences? What a farce. Millions of euros stolen from our coffers and Tonio Fenech says there will be a shortfall of €80 million in tax collection. Who is to blame for this, Minister? We have joined Europe but still the people of Malta are no better off. Not with this bunch of clowns running this poor country.
