Election monitoring group visits MediaToday offices

A delegation from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and visited the MediaToday offices in San Gwann last Friday, to meet up with MediaToday journalists and ask questions about the upcoming European elections.
The fact finding mission led by Vadim Zhdanovich (Russian Federation), team leader, as well as overall Head of the OSCE/ODIHR EP visits together with Charles Magee (United States), Marla Morry (Canada) and Tatyana Bogussevich (Kazakhstan), OSCE/ODIHR Election Adviser met with editors at MediaToday.
MediaToday editors explained to the OSCE delegation the political situation in Malta, with special reference to the state of political broadcasting in Malta and the role and dominance of the political media.
The OSCE delegation was informed of the difficulty the independent press face in Malta with respect to the laws of libel and slander and the commercial realities facing the industry. The delegation was also briefed about the disregard of parties and party candidates of the limits stipulated by law on electoral spending limits.
