Justice, not arrogance

Without going into the argument of rules and regulations as set out by the Malta Football Association with regards to the relegation of teams, I feel that there should be an explanation forthcoming from the MFA on the way it treated the latest situation and circumstance with the teams involved and how it treated the officials of a particular club.
I am not a keen football fan (although I wholeheartedly support my home town team) and perhaps this is why I don’t understand the antics involved but on reading the feature by Mark Attard entitled “Gustizzja” (Justice) in the issue of Illum (10 May 2009) I felt more perturbed to say the least. On the other hand, one point seemed very clear i.e. the fact that the president and officials of Hamrun Spartans football team were not given red carpet treatment to say the least as was their right they when went to meet the president of the MFA.
According to this point in the said feature, the delegation from the Hamrun Spartans went to the offices of the MFA to discuss a letter they had sent and when they asked for the MFA president, they were told that he was indisposed and to come later at 4:30pm which they did only to be left waiting for another 45 minutes. When finally they were shown into the president’s office he said that he was meeting them as a favour. When one member of the delegation remarked that according to the MFA’s own rules a mistake was going to take place when in a few moments a match between Tarxien and Msida was due to start, the MFA president stood up and abruptly showed them the door!
As I understand it, if club officials as is their right, go to lodge an official protest or to query some explanation with the high institution that regulates these affairs they should be listened to and not shown the door. They should meet with justice not arrogance.
