PN slams Labour MEPs’ confusion on immigration vote
The PN yesterday lambasted Labour’s MEPs over the lack of consistency on votes in the Brussels plenary related to irregular immigration.
In a statement, the party said the MEPs owed the general public an explanation over their votes on burden-sharing mechanisms, which John Attard-Montalto voted against, Glenn Bedingfield was absent from the vote, and which Louis Grech voted in favour.
“Attard-Montalto then claimed he pressed the wrong button and later Joseph Muscat even claimed that all three MEPs voted all in favour. Muscat has changed version and claimed there was a malfunction in the voting system at the parliament, with a correction taking place later so that all MEPs now voted in favour.
“But whilst Attard-Montalto’s vote was changed, Bedingfield was nowhere to be seen and 48 hours had passed before Bedingfield claimed he voted in favour,” the PN said.
The party said that Labour’s mistakes were being paid for by the people, which expected its representatives in the EP to represent the national interest before the party’s.
“Above all, they expect that on an issue of national importance such as immigration, the Labour MEPs do not make such mistakes.”
