Reference is made to your leader “Why Malta is right and Italy Wrong” (MT, 22, April).
The Italian Lega Nord party of Minister Roberto Maroni does not form part of the European People’s Party (EPP), but of the Union for Europe of the Nations Group. Hence your statement that “…both Berlusconi and Roberto Maroni belong to the same political grouping as the PN” is not correct.
The Lega Nord is in coalition with Berlusconi’s Popolo delle Libertà in the Italian government. It is the latter which is a member of the EPP, and not Lega Nord.
