Matthew Vella appointed deputy editor of MaltaToday

Matthew Vella has been appointed deputy editor of MaltaToday on Sunday.
Vella, 28, joined MediaToday in 2002 and served as editor of the MaltaToday Midweek edition since its inception in April 2007.
A graduate in anthropology, Vella furthered his journalistic interest in migration and asylum policy with a Masters in Human Rights and Democratisation from the University of Malta with a dissertation on the Maltese government’s asylum policy.
In raising questions about the transparency of the European institutions, Vella also secured the first recommendation from the European Ombudsman to get the European Parliament to disclose salaries and allowances paid to individual MEPs. His campaign led to MEPs from both political parties to strengthen their commitment to transparency on salaries.
Vella said: “I am proud to form part of the MediaToday team. There is never a dull moment at MaltaToday – our stories set us apart from the rest, and that’s what we’ll keep delivering.”
