Devil’s Advocate
Unifaun Theatre Productions will be staging Donald Freed’s play, as directed by Michael Fenech. The two-hander will feature Manuel Cauchi and Paul Portelli. The play is based on dialogues between Mons Laboa and General Noriega before the latter’s capture by American soldiers in Panama. Bookings: boxoffice@sjcav.org or 21223216. Yeats and Italy
The first Literature and Comparison Seminar of this year will be delivered by Professor Peter Vassallo from the University’s Department of English at 18:00, Gateway Building at University, Hall E. The title of the talk is ‘W.B. Yeats, Lady Gregory and the Cultural Appropriation of Renaissance Italy’. Prof. Vassallo, whose work on Romanticism and Modernism has appeared in prestigious publications and fora, will show how William Butler Yeats was constantly refashioning himself in his poetry, seeking to link his personal inner self with a wider political and political formation. This lecture will focus on Yeats’s Italian journey in 1907 (notably his visits to Ferrara and Urbino) in the company of Lady Gregory. It will examine the influence of Castiglione’s ‘Il Corteggiano’ on Yeats’s writing, as well as the journey’s impact on Yeats’s ‘political’ poetry and on its implications for Yeats’s contribution to the Irish cultural renaissance and the sustained revival of Irish folklore and myth.

Snoopy’s Pub Quiz
Quiz at Snoopy’s Bar and Restaurant, Sliema starts at 20:30. The format of the event follows a typical UK pub quiz format: each table booked is considered to be a team. Quiz packs containing 40 questions on different topics are given out to each team, who would in turn be given an hour’s time limit to fill in their answers. After the hour elapses, correct answers will be called out by the quizmaster, after which the winning table is announced. Winners receive a €20 discount off their bill. A free bottle of The Stump Jump (Australia), imported by Bicanter Wines, will be given to the winning table and runners up. Participation is set at €2 per person.
