Blackout
Series of films at sculptures by Mark Mangion at Malta Contemporary Art, 8, Off Racecourse Street, Marsa. Open on Wednesday - Friday from 18:00 to 21:00 and weekends from 17:00 to 21:00. The artist will be giving a talk at the venue on March 7 at 20:00.

Urbanisation Games
Exhibition by Adrian Scicluna at the Main Hall of St James Cavalier dealing with various aspects of local urbanization, using some popular games as metaphors.

An exhibition of watercolours by Walter Busuttil at Heritage Malta Head Office, Merchant Street, Valletta. Free Entrance. Open Monday to Friday from 09:00 - 17:00 (last admission 16:30).

Exhibition at St James Cavalier tackling the issue of overdevelopment in Malta.

The Victor Pasmore in Malta Exhibition
An exhibition by Heritage Malta in collaboration with the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts (MCCA) featuring works by Victor Pasmore at the Gozo Area Exhibition Hall of Heritage Malta, St Martin’s Quarters, The Citadel, Gozo. Free Entrance. Open Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00 (last admission 15:30).

MUSIC

March 7
Saffi
Showcase of new works by composer Alexander Vella Gregory. The concert will feature Ħames Għanjiet, a set of five songs for soprano and piano, and Piano Sonata No. 3. The piano sonata was written in September 2008 whilst on an artist residency at the Virginia Centre for Creative Arts. Performance starts at 20:30 and tickets are at €5. Doom Metal Assault Vol. 1

Porn - The Musical
Original new comedy musical is written by Malcolm Galea, Kris Spiteri, and Boris Cezek - collectively known as Indiskarf - at MITP, St Christopher’s Street, Valletta. Stefan leaves Malta for America after discovering some upsetting details about his fiancé’s sex life.

LITERATURE

March 5
Id-Demm Niezel Bhax-Xita
Book launch at Mikelang Borg Drama Centre in Blata
l-Bajda (part of the Maria Regina Junior Lyceum) on Thursday, at
19:30. Some of Malta’s best-known contemporary writers, including two who are Palestinian-born, have got together in an anthology of poems and short stories in Maltese written in solidarity with the people of Gaza. The book takes its title, Id-Demm Niezel Bhax-Xita, from a desperate message sent out by Dr Yousef Mousa in Gaza on the first day of the recent 22-day Israeli onslaught. Entrance is free.

Poetry reading by Levi Tafari
British poet Levi Tafari will be reading at St James Cavalier from 19:30, courtesy of the British Council. Entrance to the event is free.

QUIZ NIGHT

Thursdays
Snoopy’s Pub Quiz
Quiz at Snoopy’s Bar and Restaurant, Sliema starts at 20:30. The format of the event follows a typical UK pub quiz format: each table booked is considered to be a team. Quiz packs containing 40 questions on different topics are given out to each team, who would in turn be given an hour’s time limit to fill in their answers. After the hour elapses, correct answers will be called out by the quizmaster, after which the winning table is announced. Winners receive a €20 discount off their bill. A free bottle of The Stump Jump (Australia), imported by Bicanter Wines, will be given to the winning table and runners up. Participation is set at €2 per person. Those interested in participating are kindly asked to contact quizmaster David Darmanin on 99458567.
