MRA’s shocking €112,229 rent for Millennia office

The Malta Resources Authority’s office is costing the taxpayer an annual €112,229 in rent for a second floor office in the Millennia complex on Aldo Moro street in Marsa.
The MRA pays this sum to rent the premises and to finance a loan to furnish the same building.
The MRA is sharing the building with various retail outlets selling furniture, electronic and household goods.
The MRA’s wage bill consists of a staggering €816,257 for its 30 full-time employees, a part-timer and an employee working reduced hours.
A further €124,000 is paid to students and part-time workers engaged on a contract basis.
The authority, set up in 2000, regulates Malta’s water, energy and mineral resources.
Its responsibilities include the regulation of water and energy utilities, oil exploration, quarry operators and extraction of groundwater.
