Wardens ‘a burden on councils’ – Lija mayor

Lija mayor Ian Castaldi Paris has called for a radical overhaul of the country’s warden system in an interview with MaltaToday, declaring that his council has not gained any revenue from the warden system, which is run by a private company.
“We have not received a single cent from the warden system,” Castaldi Paris says, describing the warden system as “a burden on the locality and the local council.”
Castaldi Paris says wardens are strong with the weak and weak with the strong. “The system should be revised in a way that people are warned before they are fined. The present attitude is to maximise the number of fines. I want an awareness campaign. Only people who persist in error should be fined.”
Castaldi Paris is a rising star in his party, who serves as president of the PN’s College of Councillors. He was chosen to chair the Majjistral nature park’s management board this week following the resignation of former minister Stanley Zammit.
