The choice of Dr George Abela as the next President seems to be a really mature move. He commands a lot of respect from the Maltese, irrespective of which side of the political divide they stand.
He has all the ingredients to be the President of all Maltese.
Let us hope that, unlike his predecessor, he will not be the President of fervent Catholics only. Lapsed Catholics also form a considerable part of this country.
