Muscat meets Sant over reconciliation dinner

Labour leader Joseph Muscat met his predecessor for dinner last Thursday in a meeting meant to iron out their differences, two days after Alfred Sant lashed out at the electoral defeat analysis report.
Writing in l-orizzont on Tuesday, Sant slammed the commission appointed by the party executive to analyse the March 8 election defeat, arguing that its members, though well-intentioned, lacked the necessary political experience to do their job properly.
Sant claimed that the resulting report missed the wood for the trees: placing great emphasis on “trivialities”, while overlooking the really important issues that contributed to the PL’s surprise defeat.
The “reconciliation dinner”, which was held at Giuseppi’s Restaurant in Mellieha, was also attended by Secretary General Jason Micallef, who is also at loggerheads with Muscat over the appointment of CEO James Piscopo. The latter was appointed by Muscat shortly after Micallef’s re-election in what is seen as a way to sideline Micallef.
