In defence of my father I refer to Mr Sergio Grech’s letter regarding the National Book Council (4 January), especially to the part wherein he refers to my father’s presence in the Council. Most of the time, notification of meetings were received by emails sent to me on the morning of the meeting itself. Expecting an 80-year-old to turn up for meetings under these circumstances is inhumane. Moreover, my father had an eye condition that impaired him from driving throughout most of the last year. The Council was always duly notified of my father’s inability to attend.
