Dr Harry Vassallo has been appointed consulting editor with MediaToday.
MediaToday publishes MaltaToday, Illum, MaltaToday Midweek and Business Today.
Vassallo, a lawyer by profession, was editor of the newspaper Alternattiva in 1989 and later served as chairman of the political party Alternattiva Demokratika. After the last general election he retired from politics.
MediaToday welcomed Dr Vassallo to the media company and augured that his presence would continue to add to the newsroom’s cutting-edge journalism.
Other changes in the company include the appointment of Saviour Balzan as editor of the Sunday newspaper Illum.
“In these last months we have seen an increase in newspaper sales at MediaToday. As editor of the Maltese-language Sunday newspaper Illum, my first priority is to position it as the first read for Maltese speaking readers who want to read a non-partisan and independent newspaper. There is no doubt in my mind that Illum will eventually achieve the same readership numbers as those achieved by MaltaToday in 2008.”
