Bribes paid to the Pescara mayor Luciano D’Alfonso for public contracts included family holidays to Malta in 2006, and the use of a private jet for travelling to Malta.
There are 40 suspects in the investigation by the Pescara Public Prosecutor’s office on the alleged bribes for public contracts which brought about the arrest of mayor Luciano D’ Alfonso, who is also the regional secretary of the PD (Democratic Party), entrepreneur Massino De Cesaris, and the former property executive of the town of Pescara, Guido Dezio. Among the suspects is also Air One owner, Carlo Toto, and his son Alfonso.
According to the accusations, Carlo Toto and his son reportedly supplied the Mayor of Pescara a car with a driver for three years, from September of 2004 to January of 2007, to obtain contracts.
From the investigations, traces of bribes, free flights on Air One, lunches, and dinners for about €11,000 have been found. The Toto family, according to accusations, reportedly financed companies and groups tied to D’Alfonso (€100,000 to the Tourist Office of Lettomanoppello, €100,000 for the acquisition of aid vehicles, still in Lettomanoppello).
