GWU accuses WSC of trying to shed workers

The General Workers Union has accused the Water Services Corporation of an attempt at removing a number of workers by transferring to the civil service without consulting the union, in breach of the collective agreement.
The GWU told workers to ignore the letter of transfer from the WSC and to report at their place of work. They were also ordered not to attend a meeting on Friday held by the WSC.
The GWU said it was not against the WSC carrying out a redeployment exercise or the transfer of workers back to the civil service if they were found to be excess to the corporation’s needs. But it said such exercise had to be carried out within agreed parameters.
